When Jesus assured the woman at the well that where people worshiped was of no consequence whatsoever, He was alerting her and us to the reality that worship in spirit and truth was the effect of His life as our life: Not where or when people gathered.
MADE THE TWO ONE
He was implying that His mission would make us one with Father to the same extent that He was one with His Father. But not only this. The life of the trinity in us would become our life and we would become a new creation as a result.
‘The flesh’ is anything that is not Jesus manifesting through us. The flesh profits nothing for the Kingdom. What counts is Jesus come in our flesh. Now we are ignited with the fact of the incarnation – with the trinity dwelling in our being.
PARTICIPATING IN WHAT COUNTS
You can make a religion out of humbug if you wish. People have been doing it for centuries. When Paul said, ‘Neither circumcision nor uncircumcision means anything; what counts is the new creation’ Gal 6.15, he was alerting us to the end of religiosity and to the same reality – the reality of the new age in which Christ Himself becomes our life. He is our life because he is in us in our flesh and we are in His peace and rest.
Thus we are made one with God by God and we are made in the image of God by God imparting Himself to us.
Not by rites, stances, observances or pious capers. God is incarnated in our being and the spirit of sonship is revealed in our person because He is. Just as Jesus Christ was the manifestation of His Father, so today you are the manifestation of Jesus – when you believe. In Christ we are sovereign over life and by living ourselves and doing what we were born to do we multiply the new creation Kingdom of God. Paul announced,
‘And this is the plan: At the right time he will bring everything together under the authority of Christ--everything in heaven and on earth’ Eph 1.10 NLT. The right time began at Jesus’ resurrection. The right time for us to live in this healed creation is now.
