Christ Your life

His Kingdom multiplied through you

BEYOND NOTIONAL BELONGING

Richard Rohr observes and teaches that all of us belong. We do. In Galatians Paul says that Israel belongs but needs to embrace that belonging and not remain in slavery with her children. But we need to embrace the Christ of God and not a personally imagined christ; the gospel of the Kingdom and not a partisan gospel. We must embrace Christ come in our flesh – not a bunch of religious motions come as the flesh. We all belong in God and are placed in Him. This is so of the non-believer and the nominal Christian. But the key to a vibrant life is to know and experience the fullness of this belonging and not live in a fraction of our inheritance when we possess the whole.

‘It is much easier to belong to a group than it is to know that you belong to God. (1)

VARIETIES OF CURSE

Paul warned of ‘Other Gospels.’ Jesus spoke of wheat and tares – of sons of God and sons of the father of lies. Matthew wrote of ‘
This Gospel of the Kingdom.’ In Galatians Paul urged all to live in their inheritance as sons of the free woman and not of the slave woman. The latter are sons of God in theory but not in spirit and in truth. If we have embraced ‘another gospel’ we have denied our inheritance and suffocated our sonship. Whether we belong to the Body is moot, if we are promoting a lesser gospel that produces smaller people.

‘But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God's curse! Gal 1.8 NIV. Being in the body or out of the body is not much help if we are under God’s curse.

In this age, the age of the new covenant, Christ our life is expressed as us personally and as the church collectively. But more than this, the incarnation, the trinity in us, births first the church, then a new creation society that is the Kingdom of God.

‘Christ come in the flesh’ is the essence of the new creation age. He comes first in those who have agreed that they are received into His fellowship and His life. As sons of God they live in the spirit of sonship and multiply the knowledge of God in Christ. Heaven and earth is joined when the trinity lives in and manifests as the sons and daughters of God.

The gospel of the Kingdom is that we all belong in God and that God lives in us.

Don’t short-sell yourself and others by denying Christ come in the flesh on account of your obsession with the law and religion. Here you ally yourself with the spirit of ant-Christ and all who unite to suffocate fullness in Christ.

TRUTH THAT SETS YOU FREE TO BE

‘On that day you will
realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you’ John 14,20

The truth of the new testament age is that you are in God and God is in you. This is why we belong to the body. In Jesus you have been drawn into the fullness of God so that
your being is in Him and He is in you. ‘On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you’ John 14.20. ‘Realising’ is the difference between notional belonging and spirit and truth belonging. This is the objective reality of the new covenant age. Seek to know it and resolve to live in it because to do so is to live in God. Say ‘yes’ to Christ your life and begin to flourish as a daughter and a son because God has come in your flesh.

Rohr writes, “
Spirituality is about seeing. It’s not about earning or achieving. It’s about relationship rather than results or requirements. Once you see, the rest follows. You don’t need to push the river, because you are in it. The life is lived within us, and we learn how to say yes to that life. If we exist on a level where we can see how “everything belongs,” we can trust the flow and trust the life, the life so large and deep and spacious that it even includes its opposite, death.
We must do this, because it is the only life available to us, as Paul wrote to the Colossians, “You have died [the small ego self], and the life you now have is hidden with Christ in God [the Godself]. When Christ is revealed — and he is your life — you too will be revealed in all your glory with him
” (Col. 3:3–4). (2)
