Jesus did not only bring us eternal life. He gave us A LIFE – HIS LIFE. Left to our own devices and impressions we can live a shriveled life. Then again we can live a robust, full and animated existence because we have claimed Jesus Himself as our life.
When Jesus is your life you have more than a heightened form of living on certain days of the weak, you have life without limit in every place and every situation. You have this life because you have life without limit – because the fullness of the God-head bodily dwells in you.
Old covenant, living from the knowledge of good and evil, the flesh and the letter are all parts of the same thing – living from religion and even more retarded than this – living in the life of Adam and The Fall. We were made to live in God and since the cross have been placed back in Father by Jesus. We can live in life or death. That sounds a contradiction but it is real. One can live a robust religious life yet be a corpse, so to speak. But one can live in Jesus and simply be oneself and release rivers of living water. You have a body yet you are a life-giving spirit, a son of God.
Take care how you see. Some think what they are releasing is living water when it’s actually muddy water.
You can rejoice in the fact that you have a non-sectarian outlook. But you cannot celebrate a life in God if you are dragging around the ball and chain of the old covenant. Your false hope surfaces because you have adopted a pluralist outlook in which you assume that your perspective is as legitimate as that of the next denomination. But it’s not. Not if you are tied to the law. You are meant to be flourishing in the Spirit.
In Jesus we are liberated to be who we are as ourselves, as communities and as the church at large. We have no liberty whatsoever to concoct a mode of salvation that is different in any way from the teaching of Jesus and the apostles. To do this is to live in delusion.
The new covenant is the one and only medium of the Kingdom of God. There is no other. Any perspective that attempts to draw life from things not Jesus may be a version of religion. But it is not the Kingdom of heaven. No perspective that has you using Jesus to do Moses will do. That’s just nonsense. Neither will a perspective suffice in which your identity in your denomination is shared with your identity in Christ. It’s all of Jesus or nothing. You are and the Father are one or you are not. We enjoy union with God when Jesus is the only one. You are spiritually alive because Jesus is your life. You are a righteous son because His righteous life is you.
‘I and the Father are one’ John 10.30 NIV.
NEW WINESKIN ILLUSION
When Jesus talked about patching old wineskins He was talking about the old covenant. No amount of rubbing the oil of the Holy Spirit into the old covenant system and structure will resurrect it from the dead. Instead the attempt to live out of such a hybrid promotes a more subtle form of death. The new wineskin is the new covenant – the new and living way were Jesus is entirely our life without addition or subtraction.
‘He told them this parable: "No one tears a piece out of a new garment to patch an old one. Otherwise, they will have torn the new garment, and the patch from the new will not match the old’ Luke 5, 36 NIV.
One can experience the anointing without living in the Spirit. Up to a point. This was common in the old testament. But you live in the new – the age of the Spirit. None experienced the incarnation of the trinity in their being in the old testament. This is ours today as new covenant people made one with Father living in Jesus relationship with His Father.
Beware monstrous hybrids. Some have cobbled together a religion of law plus spiritual gifts. Like bolting a Holy Spirit super charger onto a model T Ford. But this does not work. All that begins well fades. We end up living in the embers of past fires. Or walk in circles attempting to extract life from things we covered years ago. In the Spirit and one with Father we are new every morning and new in every season.
ILLUSION OF GODLINESS
Living in the old covenant, it looks easier to be religious than it does to live in the Spirit. It’s not though. In religion you live from the parts instead of the whole. You think the parts are the whole. Your random acts of religion and assorted Bible studies express the knowledge of good and evil. But not the knowledge or life of God. Not in fullness. It’s like selling a person a horse with three legs.
Jesus calls you to to express Him – not propositions, abstractions and rules. When He is your life, you express Him. You live because Christ lives in you. This is His life in the new covenant. His life in you and as you. You are a son, a daughter of God. You plant Jesus and multiply sons and daughters for God. Don’t live in a separation mindset and think you have something special when you have nothing but a subtle trap. You have everything in Jesus. You have your inheritance as sons of the free woman.
‘He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant--not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life’ 2 Cor 3.6 NIV.
