It is a mistake to be Biblically illiterate. Without sound Bible familiarity we become vulnerable to flaky ideas. Holy Spirit anointing is never an excuse for Bible ignorance. If we are lazy about Bible reading we cannot expect that what we think is Holy Spirit’s leading is always Holy Spirit. We make ourselves vulnerable to cunningly devised and widely believed fables. VERIFYING TRUTH We noted recently that the door to Kingdom life is not the Bible or Bible studies. The door is Jesus who is the lens and the ‘you’ that is reading the Bible IN HIS LIFE. By the Spirit we are able to be in Christ because in the Spirit He is our life and we are His lens. Thus we will easily see that when Paul writes, ‘I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!’ we can see that any strand of teaching that ties us to the law did not originate with God. An accurate meaning of the Bible will not be known outside a personal life that is Christ our life. It’s not a simple exercise in comprehension. It’s being one with God in terms of our inheritance. What is this inheritance? It is a realization and an embracing of the fact that ‘I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you’ John 14.20. Truth in fullness will be revealed as we live in new covenant union with God. There’s an interwoveness between you and God that is yours if you embrace this union in terms of selling all you have to buy the pearl of great price. You will not get it or possess it if you are not willing to yield extraneous identities and long-held ideas to Jesus as the cross. Don’t expect to rightly divide the word of truth if your idol is your long held view or your denominational identity. You have one Husband. What counts is the mind of Christ, His gospel and not any self-defined gospel of your own and of yours. KINGDOM LIFE Interwoveness with God is the essence of the new covenant in which we and our Father are one. In this age we can be the representative and mouthpiece of God by living in this REALIZATION. What realization? ‘On that day you WILL REALIZE that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you’ John 14.20. To SO REALIZE is to live in the REALITY of what Jesus lived in. Union with Father. As such we are distributors of His spirit and life. This is the soil of competent and Kingdom ministry. ‘He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant - not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life’ 2 Cor 3.6 NIV. This Spirit-life is the presence of God flowing from you. It is the effect of union with God – a union that belongs to all but which is not lived in by all. Recently a sincere Christian lady sought to bless me my seizing on a good text of scripture and reading it to me. As well-meaning as she was, she still lived in the separation of the old covenant and had no knowledge of Holy Spirit anointing. We can bless others in this mode. But with drops, not rivers of life. New covenant living – living in our union with God rather than vicariously in the shadows of law and religion, we are competent to minister with Jesus releasing spirit and life by any of our words – not just by recitations of scripture. As such people can sense the Spirit of God in us and on us. This is because in our persons we are one with God and have become channels of His spirit and life. Adding Holy Spirit to an old covenant mindset leaves us captured us in a pre-cross realm where our union with God is dimmed and the life of the Spirit is suffocated even as we engage in Holy Spirit talk. Sure, God is gracious but we can only minister drops of living water. Our potential as son walking in the union with Father than Jesus has is to release streams of living water. ‘The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you--they are full of the Spirit and life’ John 6.63 NIV.
