All of us, in our individuality and uniqueness can be an expression of Christ. The fullness of Christ is seen when we are are alive in all that He is and all that He has accomplished for us. As the expression of His person we are the church Jesus builds. I am talking of The Body, but did not use the word that can be too often a construct devoid of real vitality. We have not been called to be Christianity. Rather we have a reality to live in who is God Himself. Christ is in us and we are in the trinity.
The Body is not some institutional entity. Not some effect of the letter that dulls. The Body is who we are by the One Spirit, described aptly by Jesus in these words, ‘On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you’ John 14.20. The thing is to make that day this day if we have not realized this already. This is the difference between the body in reality and the body in la la land.
We are the expression of Christ and the sons and daughters of God if we are living His new creation life. If we are not in the law but in the Spirit. If we are in the new covenant and not in the old. If God is incarnated in our being and we are in God. This life, the life of the resurrection and re-birth of humanity begins when Jesus comes out of the tomb and commences to be the life of all who receive Him. The new creation that is Christ our life began on the eighth day. He is the resurrection of the dead writ large in His people. This begins for us when we receive Him as our life. It begins for us individually and for the church when we abandon the old covenant to live in the new. It is real for you when you take the words ‘I and the Father are one,’ as your own.
As I wrote at the start of this post, we can be unique and different because we are distinct persons. But here is the point. We can be different, whacky, because we are living in the old covenant instead of the new. Or different because we really are sons because we have embraced our new covenant life and have the old behind. This is the difference between Kingdom and religion, spirit and flesh, life and death.
‘He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant--not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life’ 2 Cor 3.6 NIV.
We are talking the difference between the old life and the new birth, the Adamic creation and the New Creation that is Christ as us. In the Spirit, Jesus manifests as you. He manifests through all who receive Him as their life. This is how the body get to be the Body. We become the organic expression of Jesus. By the Spirit we are Him come in the flesh.
Here we are different to the Adamic flesh-monger because we have agreed with Father that His Son is incarnated in us and He is our life. And different because we are filled with spirit and life instead of being stagnant in the law and the letter. You would not believe how spiritually dull intelligent people can be when tied to the old covenant, law-desiccated letter.
EIGHTH DAY FOR LIFE
The eighth day shouts life. The seventh day does not. The seventh day is a symbol and a relic of the old covenant, the law and the knowledge of good and evil. The eighth day is Resurrection. It is the reality of new life, of infinite and eternal life and the exponential growth of the new creation. The eighth day is a prelude to Pentecost and the life of the trinity incarnated in human beings. But it is not a Sabbath. It is not even holy and no more sanctified than a Wednesday or a Tuesday. Because Christ alone is whole, holy and our rest - all of it.
