Christ Your life

His Kingdom multiplied through you

Jesus invites us to come and enjoy the unfettered freedom found in union with His Father.
This offer of freedom in the presence of the Father is graphically portrayed by Eugene
Peterson in The Message.

Jesus resumed talking to the people, but now tenderly. 'The Father has given me all
these things to do and say. This is a unique Father - Son operation, coming out of Father
and Son intimacies and knowledge. No one knows the Son the way the Father
does, nor the Father the way the Son does. But I'm not keeping it to myself; I'm ready
to go over it line by line with anyone willing to listen.
'Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me
and you'll recover your life. I'll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and
work with me - watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won't lay
anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you'll learn to live
freely and lightly
” Matthew 11:27-28 The Message

Reflecting on this scripture, Joe McIntyre asks, [Are we] ‘Burned out on religion? Tired of trying to please God by being good enough? Are you ready to learn the unforced rhythms of grace?

I have just been taking to a friend about the woodenness of people who live in the law; how a law-cantered Christianity (a perversion of the real and a contradiction in terms) can only ever produce a wooden personality; an adherent of a belief system rather than the expression of God’s life. This is because the core of life here and in the universe is not an abstraction. It’s persons: The three persons of the trinity. And they live in you! Jesus declared that the essence of the Good News is God’s life as ours. He said it in these words:

‘I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you’ John 14.20. This is not religion, not Christianity. It’s far greater than that. It SHARED BEING. It’s you and the God of the universe woven together. No woodenness, no half-life here. This is life without limit.

In our life in the Spirit there is this under-girding incarnation of God in us. In the Spirit there is a continually spontaneous bubbling-up of spirit and life. Did you know that grace is unforced rhythms; that it has non-rigid patterns and elastic edges? Grace does. Because grace is the person of Jesus who is spirit. It is He who has
become your life.

You can be done with the false solidities of laws and the vain pieties of ‘times and places.’ What counts is the ever-renewing new creation that is you. Meaning is His life in you; His resurrection becoming your resurrection and bursting up into eternal life. Keep company with Jesus. Seek out those who live this way. Make Jesus your life and you will live freely and lightly. You will be holy because God is holy and has made you holy.
