Christ Your life

His Kingdom multiplied through you

THIS TREASURE

I am curious at times why intelligent and well educated people accept religious fables as if they are the truth, why some of these able people promote deviant Christian teachings all their lives as if they are being loyal to Jesus and why some of them remain stubbornly attached to a deformed version of Christianity as if it is some fresh revelation of truth. It’s not so hard to understand why too many Believers are satisfied with a their pedestrian conformist routine. They haven’t seen much of anything else. They do ‘not suck the marrow out of life’ and too often life and their insipid religion sucks the life out of them. Yet we have an inheritance that is more than a hum-drum existence. As sons we are the manifestation of our Father, the Son and Holy Spirit. It’s amazing that people settle for religion – but they do and the Kingdom dawdles and the Enemy smirks.

But we have this treasure in jars of clay. What treasure? This treasure..

Francois Du Toit writes, “
The greatest insult to the religious ear is the fact that Jesus could say as a man, "I and the Father are one!" The conclusion of his triumphant act on the cross is now realized! Every trace of distance empowered by a sin-consciousness, was cancelled! John 14:20 "In that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me and I in you!” (1)

The treasure is that your being and Father’s being are woven together.

A PEDESTRIAN LIFE

It’s a fact that people can miss the truth because they are too lazy to grip it. People can allow themselves to coast along in second rate beliefs, living from the law, or from a Christian cultural grid of behaviours and beliefs - when they could be living as sons of God. We are who we think we are and we become who we believe ourselves to be. God says we are sons. Not mere church members, consumers of religion or just disciples striving ‘to be like Jesus.’
We and Father are one and we are the expression of the trinity who are alive in our being. Whether they are active and we are living in this reality depends on our embracing it. We can be seizing the pearl and living in the truth rather than in the common beliefs of prison inmates. Yet we are blessed and we are freed because our freedom is Jesus and in Jesus.

‘The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me,          Because the LORD has anointed me          To bring good news to the afflicted;          He has sent me to bind up the broken hearted,          To proclaim liberty to captives          And freedom to prisoners’ Isa 61.1 NIV.

We have heard much in recent times of fake news. There’s such a thing as false faith and false loyalty. Richard Rohr writes, “
A lot that’s called orthodoxy, loyalty, and obedience is grounded in fear. I do a lot of spiritual direction, and when I get underneath the language of orthodoxy and obedience, I find fear: fear of being wrong, fear of being rejected, or fear of not being “in,” fear of not being promoted in the church, fear of a God who has not been experienced. We call it loyalty, but it’s often fear. Discernment of spirits helps us recognize what is really happening. Is this really loving obedience or is it fear? Frankly, much religion starts in fear, but it cannot grow or end there. As Julian of Norwich said, “Sometimes we take fear to be humility, but it is a wicked blindness and weakness….It is contrary to truth” (2)
