If we live from the letter we will think from the letter, create ourselves from the letter and build a reality out of the letter. But it will not be the reality of God. “Christ was made man that we might be made God.” This quote from Athanasius does not mean that we are deities. It means that due to the incarnation of the Son of God in Jesus of Nazareth and now because of the incarnation of Jesus in Believers, we are truly the sons of God. Not metaphorically but in spirit and in truth.
God planned for us to be interwoven into the trinity through Jesus. When Jesus assured the woman at the well that God desires worshipers who ‘worship Him in spirit and in truth’ He was referring to what He was even then accomplishing: The interweaving of our being with the trinity. The woman was concerned about the rightness ‘of doing’ as one does in religion. Jesus was showing her that He had brought a new ‘way of being.’
‘On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you’ John 14.20. The reader will discern that this but another expression of the Lord’s Table: His life as ours.
Athanasius hit the bulls eye with the quote above. Your glory in this life is to be a manifestation of God.
Jesus did not come so that we could live a religious life, hatch up new ways of doing church, do a Frankenstein on Adam or jolt Moses into action. He came both to be our life and establish us in what we are: Sons of God with a supernatural origin, Spirit-filled agency in every day affairs. And a destiny that involves the revelation of our glory IN THIS LIFE.
You will minister spirit and life if you minister from union with God. You have this union if you have a personal relationship with Jesus and the Jesus you are one with is the Christ of God. Not some construct of a broken imagination or law-based Christian teaching.
God was revealed in Christ. In this age Christ is revealed and expressed in you.
We minister the Kingdom from a mindset of the new covenant which is the mind of Christ and the correct alignment of ourselves and our community with the mind of Christ and the Kingdom of God.
SPIRIT AND LIFE
While our information must be informed by God we do not minister information – because we are not operating out of the knowledge of good and evil – which we will be if we are tied to the law in any way. In the new covenant we minister spirit and life since we minister out of union with God.
‘He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant--not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life’ 2 Cor 3.6 NIV.
