OUTWITTING DELUSION

We talked yesterday about the plan of God being thwarted by inadequate ideas of what Father accomplished for us in Christ. We noted that the demonic infiltrates false doctrine - particularly of the kind that detracts from our fullness in Christ. To diminish Christ is to diminish the Kingdom and impede the new creation that springs from the resurrected Jesus in us. We may worry that things like Buddhism and New Age are tainted by the demonic. Maybe they are but so is the delusion of Adventism.

Christ becomes your life when you live in Him and not in the law, your own agenda, a programmatic Christian life-style or in religion. You really are a new creation and the agent of such when Christ the Son of God is your life. Something less if religion is your life. The potential for each Christian to be a man or a woman of God is unlimited. I mean unlimited in the sense of beings sons of God and representatives of His Household. I’m going beyond the definition of ‘man of God’ as a moral stalwart or a figure of faith and enterprise. Not that these things are not worthy. They are. But there is so much more and it pertains to our state of being.

In Adam your state of being is a dis-enfranchised son. In Jesus we are daughters/sons in spirit and in truth. We have the verisimilitude of the sons of God because we are in God and God is incarnated in us. However we are never sons in spirit and in truth in the law. He we have chosen a mindset of separation and of non-at-one-ment. We have decided for life in the letter and in so doing have confined ourselves to a living death while claiming life. We have chosen our own deviant reality when our genuine reality is Christ. Adventism must be seen for what it is: A delusion.

What is a state of being? Well, we could be a bird, a dog, a paramecium or a human being. The question is, what kind of human being? Do we see ourselves as just an animal, an evolved liverwort, maybe? Or do we see ourselves as the creation of God, born once of God and born again as sons in the Spirit to live in the Spirit of Sonship.
The Spirit of Sonship, did I say? Now there’s a state of being! In the Spirit of Sonship we are sons in spirit and in truth. Your state of being is ‘Son of God.’

'The old creation leaves us and intelligent animal. In the new creation we are a son of God.'

As indicated many times in these posts, a life in the Spirit is larger than life. It is spiritual in a far greater sense than the merely religious. (Contrary to popular opinion a religious person is not spiritual). Life in the Spirit is to be joined to God who is spirit and to have His Spirit and likeness manifest in our person. As sons/daughters we have his likeness and nature when Christ is our life. Religion and law are incapable of delivering this. In Christ we are the expression of His person. To see Jesus is to see ourselves!

A life in Jesus is to have our spirit enlightened, enlarged in His image and filled with His Presence. The likeness of His image is known as ‘son.’ The fullness of His Person in us is known as ‘bride.’ As sons and as the Bride of Christ we represent the nature of God, His potency, fertility and fruitfulness. We are ever pregnant with His life and purposes. We are fruitful and multiply His Kingdom in the world.

We can go beyond adding the name of Christ to the pedestrian, which is what some versions of Christianity are. A son of God is much more than someone who works hard, gives to foreign missions and turns up at church. We are far more than animals who talk and much more than clever technicians who invent. We are not deity. But we belong to His Household. We are the sons and daughters of God! We came out of His being. We need to stop thinking of ourselves as ‘
mere men,’ living in law, condemnation, judgment and criticism - and begin to live in who we have been reborn to be in Christ.

‘Listen to me, all who hope for deliverance--all who seek the LORD! Consider the rock from which you were cut, the quarry from which you were mined’ Isaiah 55.1 NLT.

Jesus said, ‘I and the Father are one.’ In the same exchange with the unbelieving Jews He quoted a the scripture that states,
‘You are gods.’ And so we are. Not deity but cut from the same rock as deity and one with He who is The Rock that fills the entire earth with His glory. In a significant way we are ‘God-like’ because through Jesus we and the Father are one. By the Spirit we take on the nature of the Son of Man - the one who is the paradigm of what it is to be a son/daughter of God and the one who as a human being is God.

‘How shall we escape if we ignore such a great salvation? This salvation, which was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard him’ Hebrews 2.3 NIV.

This side of the cross we are born of the Spirit. We have a new genesis and a new nature - but only if we are living from what Jesus has achieved for us and only if we have not become stuck in Old Testament assumptions and mind-sets. To remain there is to be a frog when we could have been a prince. Living in a delusion is what Jesus calls us to repent of.

‘Take the talent from him and give it to the one who has the ten talents’ Matt 25.28 NIV.

Life in the Spirit is a state of being. In Christ we are defined by this state, which means that we have the status of sons of God. This status derives from our creation, our redemption and our union with God. It is ours by living in God through Jesus. This state of being is our possession because the cross has transitioned us from the knowledge of good and evil to a life in God. Adam separated us from God. The Messiah joined us to God. Now we have a unified, not a fractured being. We are one as a person and one as a people.

‘He did this by ending the system of law with its commandments and regulations. He made peace between Jews and Gentiles by creating in himself one new people from the two groups’ Eph 2.15 NIV.

We live from the whole, not the parts as one is forced to do in the knowledge of good and evil. We are sons of God and not slaves of performance as people were before Jesus became the New and Living Way. As priest-kings we are competent to minister the authority and life-giving power of the Kingdom because we are the representatives of Christ’s resurrection life. But more than all of this we are loved and have the privilege of partnering with Jesus to heal the world with love.

‘For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life’ John 3.16 NIV.
