Ron McGatlin writes, ‘The dead in Christ can mean more than the physically dead. The dead in Christ can also be those who believe in Christ as savior for heaven someday, yet are dead (or asleep) to the Spirit life of Christ in them now in this world.
These are arising from the death of their lingering independent spirit into the glorious life eternal in Christ now and forever. Arise you dead (or sleeping) in Christ and live the life He has called us to live in which all things are possible and none of the weight of sin and death can touch us ever again. The glory of God is arisen upon you and the path of total victory in the joy of the Lord is open before you. (Isa 60:1). Arise into the place prepared for you from the foundation of the world. Your old life is crucified with Christ and the life you now live is by the faith of the Son of God living in your’ (Gal 2:20) (Mat 25:34).
In Jesus we are alive. In anything less we are dead and personally and collectively a ‘body of death.’ You may have lived in a culture in which you were taught that Jesus lives to help us keep the law. Not so. Jesus lives to reveal our Father, draw you into God, impart Himself to you and be your life. To see Jesus is to see your real self.
The Enemy will try very hard to make things and considerations other than Jesus our life. In Adam, life is attempted solo and sought independently of God. In Christ the new Adam and new Father of the human race life is found in Christ. His life is our life and imparted by us to the creation.
When Christ is our life we are actually alive and not living a sham existence that we might call 'Christianity.' The latter can be lived as an abstraction. But when the person of Jesus is Himself our life He is real and has come 'in our flesh.' The genius of the Father is that His life is multiplied through His sons.
'To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory' Col 1.27 NIV.
There are people about with real life. They worship a real Jesus who is real to them and those they touch because He lives in them and infuses their spirit with the life of heaven. As a result their bodily life represents Him and in spirit and truth they multiply Him.
You can live like this when you live from a person. Your person is Jesus whose life transfigures yours and more. In Him you and Father are one. So your life and an expression of Father. By God’ love and grace we are each the expression of our Father - if we are in the Spirit and not in the flesh. Your life is not found in the law. Neither is it found in a list of ‘Christian do good actions’ or things one should abstain from. Life is not found in information. Truth is not an academic pursuit. Truth is God. In Jesus you become the expression of truth. Not by mechanical acts of will but because His life is expressed as your life. But this is never our privilege when attached to the law and the letter. Here we remain a shadow of our real selves because we are still captured in the un-life of Adam. But in Christ we are genuinely and fully alive as the persons we were designed to be.
‘He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant--not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life’ 2 Cor 3.6 NIV.
The simple adventure of this is that the Christ Your Life Person multiplies Christ’s life by being himself or herself. Not only do they increase in wholeness. In the Spirit there is a direct line of spirit connection between Father and themselves. They are drawn into and made one in the Father/Son relationship. Since they and Father are one, they and their message are one - which is to say that we do better at teaching the Spirit of Sonship when are sons rather than if this is some doctrine we had to learn up before teaching it. If we live in the old covenant this will be our lot. If we are minsters of the new our message will be an expression of ourselves and our Sonship.
Those who live from the law or some performance regime have this notionally. But not in spirit and truth. Those for whom Jesus Himself is life possess this in abundance. In Galatians Paul names this is as the difference between the children of the slave woman and the free woman. We can earnestly minister from a position with the slave woman with great tedium. But we are not competent to minister the kingdom of spirit and life. We remain semi-blind and semi-deaf to spirit and life because we are still in Adam and his body of death.
‘What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!’ Rom 7.24,25 NIV.
We are delivered from this body of death into a new state in which we have become a life-giving spirit. We and Father are one. Like Jesus we have access to Holy Spirit and the Spirit without limit. Now we have the ability and the commission to multiply what Jesus began as the multiplication of Jesus in the world.
A friend of my daughter met one of these people, one of these sons of God in a hair dresser's. Because the lady was filled with the Holy Spirit and 'power from on high' she was able to minister Jesus' emotional healing to my daughter's friend whose life had been fractured by her parents divorce. My daughter’s friend experienced the ministry of Jesus and began a new life in the Spirit because this hair dresser was inhabited by the Spirit of Jesus and a representative of our Father. In our new covenant status of union with God we are the agents of His spirit and life.
Such ministry is not an eccentric 'thing' these people do. It is a continuation of the life of Jesus through His friends. These people have the authority of Jesus to do acts of healing power because they have authority - not as the scribes or the purveyors of law, church and religion. They have authority because they are restored sons.
Our life in God is profoundly personal and communal. To be tied to the law is to deny our humanity as well as our spirituality. We can live from the law and a belief system. But if we do, we deny ourselves the heart of God while our own heart remains withered and mechanical because our being is rooted in an abstraction rather than in the person of God. Here we live in a state in which we are semi blind and semi deaf to the spirit, yet captured in the religious illusion that we can see. We can deliver information and give an academic address. But we do not minister spirit and life and as a result do not minister the Kingdom of God. We can be pedagogues of a form of godliness but not mediators of spirit and life. But if Christ is your life you are spirit and life!
'For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God' Romans 8.14 NIV.
In the gospel of the Kingdom you and the Father are one just as Jesus and the Father are one. The fact that Jesus is in you manifesting to the world as you ensures that you are not a purveyor of dead works. You release life unto life in streams of living water. You are a spring of spirit and life because you are alive. 'Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them' John 7.38 NIV.
Jesus multiplied the life of His Father supernaturally because He was the Son of Man alive in His Father. We have the same privilege because we are sons who live in Jesus. This is our inheritance. In Jesus we live in the Father as sons with the same ability to reign over circumstances and the Enemy. Ours is the mandate to multiply Jesus' victory over separation from God, sin, hopelessness, death and demonic oppression. Christ not only lives in us. He lives as us as a kingdom of His priests.
'The church's existence should not be viewed as a "now and then" paradigm. Rather, the church is an eternal creative act of God and as such shares eternal essence with Christ. It has history in eternity past, and destiny in eternity future. Viewing the church solely from the soteriological purposes of God results in low ecclesiology. In a low perspective, the purpose of the church is to get people "saved" from eternal damnation and populate heaven, and ready for the rapture. The typical evangelical presentation of the gospel is fundamentally stunted, and cut-off from God's eternal design.' Stephen Crosby in 'Your Empowered Inheritance: Now!'
The ability to multiply spirit and life is a function of life in our new covenant union with God. We can do better than fill an opportunity with a religious homily or a Bible study. In the spirit of Sonship we can release revelation for the season, the moment and those to which we will minister. We can do this because we are one with Father, Spirit and Jesus. We can minister this spirit and life because we are sons/daughters. When we speak we are not just producing a talk. We are sharing something that is part of our Sonship, part of our walk, part of what God has chosen to reveal to His people through the expression of our Sonship. This is why there are those who give addresses and those who release spirit and life.
As sons, joined to and one with Father we are the expression of God and of His eternal plan. The spark of life from which we originated began in the trinity. In Jesus we are joined to our origins and to our destiny. In Jesus you are joined to our Father and made to be your real self. There is a current of spirit-life that flows from Father, Holy Spirit and Jesus and out to the world through you. This is your new covenant life, your life where your and Father are one, where your become the mouthpiece and revelation of God and find yourself doing without effort and contrivance what Jesus is doing now.
