Christ Your life

His Kingdom multiplied through you

INDWELT

Here’s something to ponder. If wholeness, righteousness and life does not come to us from the law, neither does Jesus’ life come to us from an institutionalized church. Why? Because this version of church is a manifestation of the letter that kills.

‘He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant--not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life’ 2 Cor 3.6 NIV.

We can live in a culture of the letter and quote Paul piously without realizing that because we are in religion we are immunized to an awareness of the letter and already half dead. Sadly, we can exist this way even when we talk of the Holy Spirit, His anointing and His gifts.

The favour of an incarnated Jesus is to be a manifestation of life and light.

‘In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind’ John 1.4 NIV.

WHO IS THE CHURCH?

All life comes from the Spirit of Christ. The church Jesus builds is the manifestation and multiplication of Himself as His people. This is entirely different to erecting a structure to which we hope Jesus will attach Himself and a significant difference from some versions of church planting. ‘Christ come in the flesh’ means Jesus multiplied as people. To insist that a certain form and shape - the configuration that we know as ‘the church’ is what Jesus has in mind when He said, ‘I will build my church’ is at the least a misunderstanding of the new covenant and at worst presumption. Branches of various and marvelous comportment come from our union with the vine. We are in delusion when the vine is actually ourselves.

‘I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing’ John 15.5 NIV.

Jesus did not come to get himself stagnated and solidified in intuitionalism. He came to multiply Himself in people. Institutionalism is a creation of the letter. It is the turning of Christ our life on its head and in many cases a negation of the new covenant. It is one thing to preach the new covenant in ministry and quite another to
be the new covenant in our polity and community. Intuitionalism is a tare that can ride on religion, ambition and a sense of entitlement. In new covenant spirit and life we are competent to minister the Kingdom. In any other mode we are not.

‘He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant--not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life’ 2 Cor 3.6 NIV.

So where does Jesus’ life come from. It comes from Him. It is Him. It is the Spirit of Sonship. He is always here, always with us and lives in us!

The multiplication of Jesus as His people is the person of Jesus writ large and manifest as the church He is building - without human hands. This is life in the Spirit of Christ and its effect is the harvest and multiplication of the sons and daughters of God. There is no template for this, other than the person of Jesus Himself. Christ our life - Jesus in us in spirit and in truth is replete in unity and diversity. He is difference with creativity and wholeness. People who join together in Him are His church wherever they happened to be.

The community that is the community of Christ their life represents the family of God. It is a manifestation of the trinity. The community that is merely the church as an institution is a pseudo-community and a shadow of the real. The real is Christ our life expressed in all. The community and life of the trinity is multiplied in those whose life is Jesus. God is not only love. As love He is community in Himself. This is the wonder of the trinity. When trinity makes its home in us we are imbued with the ability to be ourselves, love ourselves, recognize Jesus in others and facilitate them into being who Jesus is making them to be. There is nothing of dependency creation in the church that is Jesus manifest.

‘Jesus replied, "Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them’ John 14.23 NIV.

Churches can be inhabited by tides of people who wash in and wash out, habituated to ‘church’ yet many of them unacquainted with a personal Jesus and not acquainted with the Christ who is their life. This kind of christianity is the opiate of the people where they think they have what they have not - union with God. Religion helps to spread the illusion that our ‘god motions’ are a relationship with Jesus or that this ‘activity’ is god. But it is a shadow of the real.

‘These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ’ Col 2.17 NIV.

Anyone who has a Jesus life will be alive in their spirit wherever they are. A new covenant, Spirit-filled Believer will have life without limit. All who have a religio/christian life will be dead folks walking. But Jesus’ plan for all is to be alive in their spirit and the manifest expression of Himself - because they have agreed with the reality that God is with them and in them.

LIFE CONSCIOUSNESS

Our life as Believers is not an obsession about victory over sin. It’s about His life as ours. In Christ we have a life orientation. In religion we have a sin orientation. A girl in my Bible class once remarked that her Christianity gave her the impetus ‘to say no.’ She was talking of the false life offered to youth and to us all in the pleasures of sin. But ‘no’ is not the essence of the Kingdom. The core is ‘yes.’ The core is yes to life. All life is ‘yes’ in Jesus. Jesus said, ‘The Enemy seeks to rob. I come to give all of you life without limit.’ A Jesus focus and more - a Jesus absorption is an immersion in life. This is the meaning of baptism and the Lord’s Table - our marination into life to the full.

Many have such a weakened christianity that they honestly believe that their version of the knowledge of good and evil is living Christ. Far from it. The difference between us living in the knowledge of good and evil and Christ our life is the difference between mere religion and the Kingdom of God.
Francois Du Toit writes about our living in Christ our life rather than in a commonly purveyed Christianized Adamic life.

1 Thessalonians 5:22
“Distance yourselves immediately from every practice remotely related to the fruit of the “I-am-not-tree”, which is the typical exhausting law of works system.

The tree of the knowledge of good and evil [poneros] represents mankind’s lost sense of identity and righteousness, where the universal pursuit of humanity would now be their constant effort to achieve righteousness by means of their own works.

This inevitably leads to disappointment where shame replaces innocence, and union and fellowship are lost. The word evil, poneros, suggests being full of hardships, labors and annoyances.
5:23 There, away from any effort of your own, discover how the God of perfect peace, who fused you skillfully into oneness - just like a master craftsman would dovetail a carpentry joint - has personally perfected and sanctified the entire harmony of your being without your help!

He has restored the detailed default settings. You were re-booted to fully participate in the life of your design, in your spirit, soul and body in blameless innocence in the immediate presence of our Lord Jesus Christ.

[Life is not] in my “I-used-to-be-ness” or “I’m-trying-to-become-ness”, but in my “I-am-ness!” The word eirene, translated peace, refers to the dove-tail joint in carpentry. The word parousia, suggests immediate presence; see my comment on 1 Thessalonians 2:19.)
