As sons and daughters of God we live in God consciousness and more. We live in God. As a result of God’s plan, His cross and His Spirit, God lives in us. The incarnation of the fullness of God in man is the great truth of the new testament age. Complimentary to this is the baptism of Holy Spirit and His supernatural gifts like words of Knowledge and the gift of healing. While all may be incarnated with the ‘presence’ those who are Spirit-filled and who know Holy Spirit as a person are equipped with power from on high that is available to all but which many do not utilise. Without the Holy Spirit with power we are equipped to run institutions. With the Holy Spirit and His power we are pointed to multiply the Kingdom in the manner of Jesus.
‘I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high’ LUKE 24.49
Those who are Spirit-filled, who are grounded in the new covenant and the reality of what Jesus achieved are better off than those who remain entangled in the law and some form of performance orientation. These are weeds that crowd out the life of the Spirit of Christ. If not repented of this will result in the fading of the gifts and withdrawal of Holy Spirit. It’s not that Holy Spirit does not wish to fellowship with us. It is that His anointing grows from our union with God and not from the law or any performance mentality. In the law we nullify the union with God that is ours. In the new covenant Jesus and the life of the trinity is our life.
The cross, our at-one-ment and union with God is the source of our Sonship and our verisimilitude as sons of our Father. The life of the trinity is the life in which we participate thanks to Jesus. The vicarious humanity of Jesus for our relationship with God is the soil from which our roles as priests of the Kingdom is sustained and grows. Those who are alive in God eat His Son. Literally. This is the meaning of the Lord’s Table. That’s Christ’s life is our life. Eating Jesus is eating Him in the Spirit and receiving Him personally as our life. Eating His stuff is eating Christian junk food. The life is in Jesus - not in Christianity or good works.
‘Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me’ John 6.57 NIV.
Clever and imaginative people are made more fertile in the natural when they associate with open-minded visionaries. In the Spiritual we are enhances as son and daughters of God when we fellowship with those for whom Christ rather than religion is life. Such people are filled with His spirit and life and this is multiplied in the community of the saints. It is dulled and leached out in the community of the religious. Those who have, will have more is a Kingdom principle. It is so because the spirit and life of God is infinite and multiplies itself eternally.
‘For whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them’ Matt 25.29 NIV.
Bible study, worship with others and prayer is beneficial. But we do not have to badger God into loving us, being with us or helping us. He lives in us. Effective intercession grows out of the reality of this union. It is not an exercise that we do to accomplish what we already have. Our inheritance is union with God and the same authority Jesus has. We have it. He said so. Jesus and you in Jesus have the same authority Jesus had - if He and not religion is our life. There is no life in religion. I have heard people pray lame prayers asking God to be with George and Mabel. These are lame because He is already with them. Try asking God for something only God could fix. The the non-believer must sit up and say, ‘Your God is real!’
Multiplying what Jesus began with power from on high is not Pentecostal or charismatic. It’s God! It is the Kingdom of authority and power, which since Jesus’ day distinguishes those anointed with Kingdom authority from the teachers of the law and religion. This is the inheritance of every Believer - yours not because you have reached some height of spirituality or ‘the next level,’ but yours because you are a person who is one with God, one with our Father and one with Holy Spirit. In short because you are the manifest presence of God.
You have a life in God that is full and free. There is a fullness in Christ, a fullness that is yours sourced in the fact of Christ in you. You are one with God because Christ has made you one through His death on the cross and His life in you in the Spirit. He ended the separation between you and God when He cried, ‘It is finished!’ He declared that He would be in us and with us forever by His Spirit. His enfolding of each of us into the family of God is complete and forever. It cannot be undone. Our relationship to our Father is secure in Christ - thanks to the vicarious ministry of Jesus.
‘No power in the sky above or in the earth below--indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord’ Rom 8.39 NIV.
Our life now and eternally comes from union with God. Jesus has accomplished this on behalf of our Father and Holy Spirit. There is nothing more important and than this union with God. It is what God has conspired to do and it is what makes you who you are - sons and daughters of God. Father has made us one with Himself. Because of this we are sons and not orphans. Our union with Him is ours because of what He has done. Not because we do religious things. Our witness to Father’s life and our multiplication of Jesus’ deeds is a function of this union with God, of Christ un us.
My point is that gifts, miracles and healing are not God’s top priority. Union with God is . But they are a means to the end. They are signs of His love - and means of advertising His grace. And drawing all into His fellowship and Fatherhood. We know this because Jesus healed to reveal our Father as the healer and lover of our souls. His aim is for all to be one with Father as He is one with His Father. This is the soil of all life, of life in the Spirit and the anointing.
Union with God is the need of our souls and because all else - our sonship, our capacity to be rivers of spirit and life and to minister His healing over circumstances and the Enemy is the effect of the union with God that He has secured for us. The gifts are the branches of our rootedness in God. Those who teach on the vicarious ministry of Jesus are just as important as those who heal the sick and raise the dead. This vicarious ministry is the foundation of our life in heaven and our fruitfulness on earth.
Medics live to restore life. Today there are ingenious ways of restoring lost limbs. It is evil to reduce life in anyway, to abuse people or leave abuse unchallenged and unhealed. It is evil not to restore life or to leave people in much less than the fullness of life because we have a life-denying religious perspective to maintain. And evil to deny fullness of life to those who have mere drops of it. It is evil to do this because it causes death.
‘The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full’ John 10.10 NIV.
Since Christ is our life and only He is life it is evil to knowingly teach gospels that diminish what God has done and replace this with any form of legalism or substitute for Christ Himself. To promote an old covenant gospel that diminishes Jesus and the accomplishment of our Father in making us alive and one with our Father is to join with evil doers and assist the father of lies. Here we are aligned with workers of iniquity - institutionalised death.
‘If anyone causes one of these little ones--those who believe in me--to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea’ Matt 18.6 NIV.
We are part of a great adventure. We can be life-starters and life-multipliers. We are life-giving spirits and sons of our Father.
