So here’s some self-talk of a kind. The ‘self’ becomes the church and the church becomes the Kingdom. So talk of being ourselves in Christ is never misplaced. We were created as sons and daughters of God - persons made in God’s image to be ourselves; to be lesser I AM’s as the sons and daughters of I AM. Jesus redeemed us to be fully human, fully alive and fully ourselves. This may well be lost on us if we think of spirituality as busyness and religion.
You will certainly miss your Sonship if you are passive enough to live in religion, the law or some performance regime. You might become a compilation of qualities but never get to be the fullness of who God created you to be a son. In religion we attempt to justify ourselves by what we do. In God we are already justified because of what we are - sons of God. The religionist will seek concrete evidence of acceptance in ‘doing.’ But sons and daughters live from their being and their Sonship. They simply release spirit and life without effort and artifice.
Some of the talk about ‘being your best self’ needs to be seen as the babble it is. You will be your best self when you are hidden in Christ and revealed as a son. There is no completeness of personal identity outside the person of Jesus and no valid representing of Jesus kingdom when He is not personally our life.
The law of the spirit of life is Christ as you and manifest in the cosmos. Kingdom life is new covenant life in the new and living way that is Christ as you. Life in the Spirit is a function of our life in Father. It is not a stand-alone feature that can be maintained apart from new covenant living. Anything planted in law and old covenant will fade. Anything planted in the trinity will advance exponentially.
‘And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit’ 2 Cor 3.18 NIV.
Because God formed you out of Himself, we are only our real selves in union with Him. Hidden in God we lose our Adamic and false self and gradually put on our real self. Outside of Christ we are always a creature of the father of lies. One of the main lies is the promise of life in religion. In Christ we have sharp discernment. We are true to God, true to ourselves and life-giving spirits active in our bodies.
Because you are in the Spirit and not in the knowledge of good and evil Christ lives in you and you are in Christ - actually a member of the trinitarian household. The Spirit of God is interwoven in your being. You are by origin, by redemption and by the Spirit a son of God. Your manifest His presence where you are.
Francois Du Toit, author of The Mirror Bible writes,
“If all God wanted was Jesus then why did he redeem you? We are not merely Christ-cloned, we are individually uniquely and awesomely designed to give display to the image and likeness of our Maker within our own person, our fingerprint, our touch, our smile, our voice, our countenance. Paul says we do not preach ourselves, we preach Christ, yet we commend ourselves to everyone's conscience’ 2 Cor 4:2,5.
‘And this is the plan: At the right time he will bring everything together under the authority of Christ--everything in heaven and on earth’ Eph 1.10 NIV.
