On Jesus’ resurrection all were meant to know that we had a new life – a life in which we are one with God. Yet many do not know and separation is implied and taught in much church culture as though it is the truth. The result is a church-life of paralysis and impotence. There’s a life that results from the Christian Industry and life that results from the industry of Christ.
‘On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you’ John 14.20 NIV. Is this so because we have done something, are yet to do something or have some hoops to jump through. Not at all. It is so because in Christ all have been made alive with the indwelling presence of God.
I am writing this on a Sunday morning after sending a text message to a young friend of mine, a gifted pastor who is skilled in the practicalities of planting churches and enlivened with the spirit and life of heaven to release God’s this abundant life to the needy in the suburbs of Chennai in ways that enlarge the spirit of the people and cater for their physical needs. My message to him simply said, ‘ The new creation began on Sunday morning.’
And so it did. Not only did the risen Jesus come to live in us. We, in Jesus have been admitted to the trinity to live as sons of God as real sons, not in shadow but in the reality of Christ our life. When Christ is our life the error of Adam is undone, the confusion and impotence of the knowledge of good and evil is annulled, separation is thwarted and we are restored to union with God. Restored from sons in theory to sons in spirit and in truth.
Today we are real sons because through Jesus we live in a real Father, not in theory and not some figment of error hatched up by the Father of Lies, but in spirit and in truth. So we are in God and God is in us.
The generosity, no the extravagance of our union with God in Jesus beggars belief. Yet it is a fact. We remain spiritual beggars if we leave this treasure in the field, do not dig it up, take it home and eat it so that it becomes us and we are daily transformed as sons living in the inheritance Jesus has given us. This is that we and our Father are one. One in that we have been gifted union with God and one in that we are each the expression of our Father as our individual selves.
‘Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me’ John 6.57 NIV.
When Jesus responded, "And you are Peter and I will build my church on your declaration that I am the Christ," He meant that we become our real Peters, Mabel's and Georgina's. When Jesus is our life our life is hidden in the trinity from where we are revealed and declared as the sons and daughters of God. Here as sons in spirit and in truth we are empowered to rout the kingdom of the enemy by multiplying the spirit life of heaven and by mighty works of power that demonstrate that our God is real.
The spirit life of God in us brings good health, fends off disease, imparts grace to our lives and gives us the ability to love without condition. Without this we cannot even love ourselves. This Jesus, this Spirit in us, this life of heaven heals our soul, fills us with well-being and gives a positive outlook to our disposition. Why? Because The Resurrection has personally made us His home.
Scottish theologian T. F. Torrence and those who have studied under him have played a large part in bringing Believers to understand the core and foundational nature of the incarnation. He writes
“In the hypostatic union, God remains God, and man remains man, and yet in Christ, God who remains God is forever joined to man, becomes man and remains man. In
this union God has become man without ceasing to be God, and man is taken up into the very being of God without ceasing to be man.” - T.F. Torrance.
Amazing, paradoxical and real!
The word hypostatic above simply means the union of Christ's two natures. He is all human and all God. And in Jesus we are all sons of God and human beings. In Jesus we are joined to God as sons and situated with Him in the Holy Family of the trinity. So we are one with God in heaven and He is one with us on earth. Live in the reality of Christ.
Sadly we are not alive in spirit and life just because we are sincere or nice people. There are lovely people with their glory dimmed and their gate crippled. Many people love Jesus but do not live in this fullness. Some are doctrinally confined to the law and others live out of a matrix of moralism and religious conformity. In comparison to this completeness and this all-encompassing glory, we observe the threadbare nature of gospels of law and separation.
In His light we know that Christ our life is no mere Jesus Talk. Incarnated in us His life is where we are at any time and in every situation. You are always in His Presence. As a Believer you cannot be separated from the presence of God because you are in Him and He is in you. You can never be separated again from Him, even by your sins. Why? Because Jesus presents you towards God in every way. He even represents you as your real self towards Himself!
Father’s glory is revealed in the face and life of Jesus. So is yours. Christ in you is the hope and present reality of our glory as unique sons and daughters of God because we are charged with His spirit and life.
‘When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory’ Col 3.4 NIV.
The real gospel, rather than the diluted or polluted gospel is better in every way than the attempts of anti-Christ to diminish Jesus and dilute the power of our being. It is simple. It is all encompassing. It deals with the micro and the macro. It enhances your individuality and your unique gift as yourself to the Body. Christ is multiplied in practical ways in all who believe. You are never a clone when Christ is your life; always a daughter or a son and always writing your story in the history of the universe that you were designed to - by being yourself!
