Paul was emphatic when he said that if righteousness and life could be gained through the law, then Christ died for nothing. Yet we have entire religious traditions bumbling along in the law if not in a Christian performance syndrome.
If obedience means anything it means living in what God did in Christ. This is to say, obedience means living in the new covenant and not the old. It means grasping and living in the Christ who is our life.
We can minister religion with a homily for any occasion. Then again we can release spirit and life because we and Father are one. But we are never ‘one’ if tied to the law. The Enemy has simply rendered us neuter.
Should you be a teacher, preacher or Christian minister of any kind, you owe it to yourself and others to be competent as an apostolic minister of the new covenant. In the old covenant mindset we remain in separation from God. In the new we and our Father are one. This is the key to doing what Father is doing and the foundation of the gifts and the anointing.
‘Apostolic’ means to be sent forth out of the being and heart of our Father. To imagine apostleship when tied to the law needs to be seen as the nonsense it is - unless we are content to be apostles of the law, which would mean we are out of alignment with God and hence false apostles. When one with the law (an abstract entity) we are not one with Christ. We need to sort out who our husband is going to be.
‘For I feel a divine jealousy for you, since I betrothed you to one husband, to present you as a pure virgin to Christ’ 2 Cor 11.2 ISV.
To belong to the Body of Christ we need to be joined to God and be part of God - an extension of Himself and not some evangelist for the knowledge of good and evil. To minister from the law and old covenant is to minister a truncated gospel; a gospel of limitation that stifles growth and the potential of the Believer. The gospel of the Kingdom is so good it has always strained credibility. This is because God is infinitely better than all of us have thought Him to be – and we are infinitely more than many imagine!
‘He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant--not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life’ 2 Cor 3.6 NIV.
We have been delivered from the un-life of the law and religion. We can multiply the life of Christ or be ministers of a body of death. The most daring teaching and writing comes from those who are the most deep-rooted in Father and the radical nature of His plan. Union with Father does not make one careful, stuffy, conformist or religious. We and Father are one. This makes us life itself!
‘I and the Father are one’ John 10.30 NIV.
There is nothing reasonable about the gospel of the Kingdom. We might be urged to reason together, but the gift of life in God that has always been ours from first to last defies any criteria that could be deduced from the knowledge of good and evil. In normal terms IT IS NOT REASONABLE. But according to the heart of Father it is our inheritance. This gift can only be received as what it is: The revelation of God in Christ. The adoption of sons in Jesus.
‘But now God has shown us a way to be made right with him without keeping the requirements of the law, as was promised in the writings of Moses and the prophets long ago’ Rom 3.21 NLT Saul of Tarsus rejected the way as obnoxious to God. He chained up The Way’s followers and was responsible for the death of some. The new and living way is so radical that it is an offence to the religious and foolishness to the godless. But it is the life of God as Christ in you. The effect of our belief, of our acquiescence in His Plan is peace, rest and joy in God. We become alive with the life of God because He is and we are – ourselves!
‘The beauty of a life in God is that we get to be ourselves and not some religious stiff!’
‘But now God has shown us a way to be made right with him without keeping the requirements of the law, as was promised in the writings of Moses and the prophets long ago’ Eph 1.11 NIV.
The life available in the Son of God is not the opposite of death. Neither is it the counterpoint of pain. This is life itself. Life original, infinite and overwhelming in grace, love and joy. This is a new and living way.
Don’t settle for religion when you can have The Life. Don’t malinger in the old covenant when you have the new. Don’t cling to death when you have the new creation. Don’t be a worker and a bore when you are a son! In Jesus we get a new and living way and a new and living life. Life cannot now kill our dreams. Father’ life around and in us ensures that our dreams will be realised. We will manifest life ourselves in accordance with our design!
Jeff Turner writes,
‘If I'm not tempted to throw a book across the room at least once, I'm probably not reading the right book. If we want to grow and go beyond the status quo, we must be willing to immerse ourselves in ideas that make us squirm and grimace. Reality is not always pleasant initially, but it sets us free 100% of the time.’
