Christ Your life

His Kingdom multiplied through you

UNIQUE

One of the illusions of pop theology is that you are unique. We are all potentially unique in Christ. Not outside of Him and not in religion. We are who we are in Christ. But not so much in lesser things. Our distinctiveness is blurred in Adam where we live in conformity and clichéd thinking. If we are not living in Romans 8 we can forget about unique. We will be conformed in some way to the world.

‘Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God’ Rom 8.5-9 NIV. The Spirit desires your union with God, the healing of your fragmented self, your union with you and who you really are and your union and communion with others. This is the meaning of ‘May they be one as we are one.’

‘I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one. I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me’ John 17.22,23 NIV.

This is the truth about yourself in Jesus. ‘I AM who I am in the Spirit of Sonship because I and my Father are one. I am real because I am in my Father who is the ultimate person, lover, instigator of fun and all things interesting.’

All this potential is reality when we are in the Spirit - meaning in the spirit of Sonship. In God, which is our status since the cross and Pentecost, and in the spirit which is the new and living way as described in Romans 8, where we have union with our Father. His life is our life to the extent that the life of Jesus is lived out in our souls and bodies. This is why Christ is our life rather than things and actions our life. Step into Him. Invite Jesus to be your life!

We all have individual differences outside of Christ. But when Christ is our life to we grow daily into the fullness of ourselves. This is not selfishness. It is living from our design and the dreams of our heart. We are truly unique when our life is the expression of our Father, the Son of Man and Holy Spirit who live in us and complete us.

All of this is ours in the Spirit, spontaneously lived as the effervescence of ourselves as sons of God. But not if we are living from obligation, from some perceived need to pay back Jesus, from the law or a humanitarian philosophy. Humanism will not evoke the uniqueness that is you. Neither will a misplaced sense of Christian obligation. Rest your spirit in the person of our Father and your will produce works of spirit and life in your body.

In the Spirit you are one with God. You are instinctively doing what Father is doing through you. You can do this because you are the expression of our Father and because you are led by His Spirit - led by intuition, prompting, prophetic words, visions and dreams. The latter are helpful and useful but not always a requirement. As a son you can express Fathers heart simply by being yourself. In fact, we are better at releasing Gods life as a son than we are as a worker in some fitful kind of anointing bolted onto the law. Unless joined to Father and in the Spirit of Sonship, we will be flapping about in some kind of religious conformity - living from dead works and expending effort that means nothing for the Kingdom. In the Spirit we dispense a unique flow of spirit and life because we are manifesting Jesus where we are.

‘The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you--they are full of the Spirit and life’ John 6.63 NIV.

The anointing depends on union with God. It flows from our oneness with Father in a consistent stream. We are already joined to God. Our need is to live from where we are! Those led by the Spirit of God are the sons of God. They are led by the Spirit because they are sons and they are sons because God has made this so - not you. Just as we all became sinners due to Adam so we are all now sons of God due to Jesus.

Jesus has made the two one. God has undone the perceived barrier between man and God through the cross. In Himself and in the man Christ Jesus, He has made us one with God. He has ‘at-oned-us’ and entered our being by the Spirit so that we are sons in spirit and in truth. This is to say we are sons of our Father as a state of being and imbued with His spirit because He has come in our flesh. Since Father has come in our flesh we are who we are authentically and without artifice.

We can do better than persuade ourselves that we are sons by analogy, metaphor or self-talk. We are sons in fact, forever in spirit and in truth. To live in old covenant, law, religion and knowledge of good and evil mode is to live in externalities and remain a religious conformist. Here we are bogged in the confines of the knowledge of good and evil and restricted mentally and intellectually to the mundane. The flesh is of no value to the Kingdom of God.

LOVE A PERSON AND A SPIRIT

God is love and life. To live from the law and a performance culture cuts off our hearts from Father and assumes that His heart is cauterised from us. It separates our heart from our spirit and soul. It leaves us with a lifeless belief system that we strive to make alive. We cannot in this state impart life because such things are inert and lifeless. You might be surprised how many Christians see themselves as free of the law. Yet they are embedded in a matrix of ideas and behaviours they imagine is God. But actually it's them.

So how unique do you want to be?

A law based Christian culture withers the Spirit, shrinks the soul and stymies intelligence. Grounding your being in the deadness of an abstraction like the law and defining Father as essentially a Law-Monger, belittles you and creates communities of dullness.

A law centric/performance outlook smothers every aspect of your humanity. A law culture will not nourish Godliness or brilliance. It cannot nourish spirit and life. Nether will performance driven ministry. But the world changes when we are personally the manifest presence of God. Then, after the manner of Jesus, you are Mavis or George come in the Spirit and active in your physical body. You are spirit and life and that which you touch is charged with spirit and life. This is the nature of God and the stuff of heaven.

Joined to anything less than Jesus - you will never be unique and always a less than yourself. But with Christ as your life, you will be who you are, a son of God writing your own story in the saga of the new creation and multiplying deeds of that reproduce themselves eternally.
