WHERE IS GOD?
Where is God for the Believer? At the local church? At the place on your couch where you do your daily devotions? Up the front of the church with the praise and worship team? God is in you. Once we believe in Jesus the Father, Son and Holy Spirit make their home in us. So where is God? Where you are!
We have been teaching on THE INCARNATION, of Christ our life and of Jesus, Father and Spirit living in us and imparting their life to us. God is life and that life is the life of all.
In the life of God, righteousness is a sub-category of love and of life. SPIRIT AND LIFE is the presence of the Holy Family released into our persons and communities. The glory of God in the church is seen in when Jesus is incarnated in each member. With Christ in us we are enveloped in His reality. He is revealed to us as He is and WE KNOW His glory. But there’s more. In Him we are revealed as we are – our true nature and design unfolds. There is our glory too. Increasingly we become WHO WE ARE as unique sons and daughters of God and begin to function without artifice in the freedom of the SPIRIT OF LIFE.
‘I have become its servant by the commission God gave me to present to you the word of God in its fullness— the mystery that has been kept hidden for ages and generations, but is now disclosed to the Lord’s people. To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory’ Col 1.25-27 NIV.
Values and qualities like love and peace have no life independently of God. They are just words and possibilities. They are unable to impart essence or multiply themselves. They are inert and have no meaning or life apart from God outside of us. Recently I walked along the beautiful Camel Road around the back parts of Mussoorie in India. There were various 'holy writings' along the way urging people to work on things like "peace."
But we cannot be peace just because peace is admirable and good. We have no power to bring ourselves into alignment with such externalities as noble as they are. We replicate them spasmodically but are incapable of sustaining peace at all times. You don't think so? Just look at the history of the world.
The Bible teaches that we are not capable of drawing close to God; that none of our efforts bring God to us and that in fact, self-effort insulates us from God forming a barrier to His presence. So God drew near to us. He came in the form of Jesus, dying for our sins and living for our life - not outside of us but in us - so that His whole and holy life is our life and Becomes Our Life. Jesus is the righteousness of God for you and more. He is the righteousness of God AS YOU. Christ come in the flesh means that His life is manifest as yours.
‘This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God’ 1 John 4.2 NIV.
The Gift of Holy Spirit is not a reward for good works like patience and forgiveness. Holy Spirit is the reward of Christ's good work. Holy Spirit is the means of Christ's presence in and with us and the power that produces the gifts of the Spirit in all who believe. We don't do good works to receive Holy Spirit. We receive Holy Spirit to multiply good works. This is why they are called fruits of the Spirit and not the DEMANDS of the Spirit.
‘I would like to learn just one thing from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by believing what you heard?’ Gal 3.2 NIV.
One cannot be Godly by living from a program or from the law. Not even from being a nice person can one be Godly. These things smother the spirit of Christ and debilitate the presence of God in us. Institutionalism muffles God and dulls the Believer. This is why CHRIST OUR LIFE is the promise and the reality of our glory. Only when Christ is personally our life is God fully known and only then are we are our truly selves. The try-harder gospel is commonly presented as the gospel of the Kingdom. It is the staple of institutionalism and the engine of the Christian Industry. But it's not of Christ, not the pearl of great price or the spirit and life of the trinity in you. It's Adam with Jesus as a garnish.
Someone remarked that for many, 'The only thing more important than working for the Lord, is to BE SEEN to be working for the Lord.' How sad. What a rope of sand!
Jesus has a better message than this for this hour. It's not work harder. It's REST HARDER. This is what should we expect when He is personally our, peace, hope and life. Anything done in His peace and direction overflows with spirit and life - the life of the trinity flowing though you.
The trinity is the womb of the universe. Christ in you joins us to this incubation center of life. Our union with God in Jesus joins us to this life-hub. In the New Testament age the womb of all life and growth is Christ in us and our oneness with our Father. This is what makes us Godly. Because of Jesus, we and Father are one. United to Him we are sons not in theory but in spirit and in truth. Now the Spirit and life of the trinity flows through our being. We are made whole, recreated as genuine sons and empoweresd to ignite all we do with the spirit and life of heaven.
EARS THAT DON’T HEAR
Some are so steeped in earning the presence of God, earning His favour and approval and striving to merit the reception of Holy Spirit through good works that they have difficulty in receiving the truth that God is already in us and we in Him. Whenever the simple gospel of Christ in you is presented, they filter it through their old wine skin and undo their inheritance. They roll it back and continue in their habit of earning the favour and position in God that is already theirs.
These crippled Believers have been brain-washed in the standard TRY HARDER GOSPEL that is not the gospel of Christ or His Kingdom. These tares are sown in the name of God. But earning the right to be spirit filled and sons of God is not Kingdom doctrine or the gospel of the Kingdom. ‘Try Harderism’ plants death in the name of life, propagates iniquity, impedes the New Creation and satisfies the evil one by annulling the power of Christ in the name of Christianity.
There is discipline in the Christian life. It is training ourselves in the art of resting harder so to be positioned as sons, to hear Gods voice and to be formed in Jesus instead of Adam. Adam accepted the lie that we can earn the approval of God independently of God. Jesus is the truth that those who are one with Father are the sons of God. Today you are in Christ and in our Father. In actual fact you are received into the Holy Family, known as the trinity.
In this womb of life you are covered in the Spirit of Sonship. You are a daughter and a son in spirit and in truth. You are authenticated in Sonship as was Jesus and as a result have the Spirit without limit. It is in this life in Father as a son that you have the anointing and the gifts of the Spirit. They are the result and the effect of your union with our Father. Thus the gifts and life in the Spirit are rooted in Father and the trinity where they can never fade or grow stale. Not only do they keep on keeping on. They enlarge exponentially because they are sourced in heavens life and the fact that you are a son in spirit and in truth.
