Jesus not only sets captives free from bondage. He draws us into the fellowship of His infinite life. This is the meaning of Isaiah 61.1 and Luke 4.18.
When Paul wrote the words, ‘Christ your life,’ He meant that Christ is in every way our life as a person, as a family, as the church and as the Kingdom of God. Jesus is the cosmic Christ (logos) and the personal Christ. When Christ is our life we are the new creation personally, in Him as the community of God and aligned with the creation that has its being in Him. We are a new creation in Jesus. Never in Adam or Moses. When other things are our life – like religion and a moral agenda, He is not our life. Or not much. These things are. Don’t suffocate His spirit and life. We can either be creatures of abstraction or sons and daughters of God. ‘Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is’ 1 John 3.2 NIV. Life for us began in the trinity. This was the womb of our beginning. The family of God is also the alpha and omega of our living. Here is found our spirit and life, purpose and our real self. You can do ‘Forty Days of Purpose’ and never get your real purpose if you are living from ‘try harder religion.’ You will find yourself and your real purpose when you are resting in God, surrounded by Father, Son and Holy Spirit, being nurtured as the son/daughter that you are. Don’t fritter your life away fulfilling other people’s purposes or a generalized purpose that flows like a dry creek from an institution. As a son/daughter of God you are unique. None can fill the spot in creation that you alone can facilitate and nurture. The source of your being – the real you came forth from the Son. You will be your real self in the Son. In Him you are a son of God – not an assemblage of doings or Christian nuts and bolts. In Him you have the spirit of divinity and the nature of our Father. In Christ you will automatically be positioned in God’s new creation advance in fellowship with those who are sons rather than dawdling along in a procession of workers and slaves. You are a real son as a son of the Free Woman.
‘His son by the slave woman was born according to the flesh, but his son by the free woman was born as the result of a divine promise’ Gal 4.23 NIV.
Don’t deplete yourself in fulfilling some celebrity’s vision. That idea is the product of institutionalism. It did not come from God. It dumbs down initiative and imagination and robs the church of spirit and life. Father does not produce religious clones. He multiplies sons of God and in doing so advances the new creation life that God precipitated in Jesus. The law is not a mirror of who you are. Jesus is the Mirror. He is who you are in the present and who you are becoming. In some religious communities ‘try-harderism’ is embedded in their doctrine. In others it is a function of a decayed Christian culture. Whatever the cause, it leeches the power or ‘Christ our life’ that could have been Jesus manifest directly as you and as us.
It’s important to examine the foundation of our beliefs and practices. Jesus came to set captives free from myths and humbug. So don’t embed humbug in your Christianity and savor it as ‘our perspective. ‘Our inheritance in Him is spirit and truth. In the reality of Christ you are really a son. In lesser things like the law and ‘other gospels’ you are less than yourself and a faint shadow of His church. Jesus is the exact representation of our Father. We are the expression of the Son. We are the representation of Jesus through Holy Spirit alive in our being and more. Because Jesus is the vicarious human being. You are the son of God manifest as a son/daughter of humanity. Francois Du Toit of The Mirror translation writes, ‘The two most important words in the Bible are the words, ‘in Christ. ‘This union is the key that unlocks the mystery of the Mirror message; it is not possible to understand the Bible or redemption in any other light. Of God's doing - are you in Christ! (1 Corinthians 1:30) In the mind of God you have always been associated in Christ! (Eph 1:4). Some people are not more in Christ than others - others may just not know it yet!’ We write these posts and carry out this ministry in the hope that they will!
