In the post cross age Jesus manifests as us – which is to say we are the expression of His life. Christ come in our flesh is His Spirit being expressed in our being in everyday tasks, duties, relationships, moments and seasons.
Life in the Spirit in order to do the law or parts of it is a nonsense and a contradiction. This is like a person who refuses a river to insist on a puddle. Christ has woven Himself into our being so that we can enjoy His fellowship with Holy Spirit and Father. This is so that we can love what they love and be what they are because we are one with them and the expression of them. And so that we can increasingly participate in the intensity of life that is infinite and eternal.
Life as conceived in the tenets of the knowledge of good and evil is contradictory, confusing and a lie. The law retains those captive to it in this domain. Stepping into Christ introduces you to life without limit. This is why signs and miracles are the advertisements for a life in Christ. But this life and this light continues our healing in this life. Spirit and life comes from the cross and it’s at-one-ment of the self with God.
Christian Kettler writes, “Scripture speaks of Christ as our life. “I am the life” (John 14:6; 11:25). Paul’s words are familiar: “To me to live is Christ” (Phil 1:21), and “Christ who is our life” (Col 3:4). In fact, Bonhoeffer can speak of Christ’s life as “the origin, the essence and the goal of all life and of our life.” Christ not only pays the penalty for our sins, but also gives us the positive contribution of his very life.” (1)
Christ never mediates to us the law. He mediates Himself by the Spirit.
A life defined by the law is not really Christian. Being generous we might call it a faint version of what God has on offer. Law draws us into a life in an ideology – a life in which Jesus is obscured and His presence muffled by a thicket of religion. You can do better than this. You have direct access to Christ. He lives in you and more. He is part of you as a human being and has woven you into the being of the trinity. Don’t eat scraps when you have access to a banquet. The Lord’s Table is the Feast of Himself – your thankful agreement that His life is your life – a life that never ends.
