BORN AGAIN IS NOT GIVING UP BEER
I have always been a lover of life. I see it in many places, in certain people and not in others. ‘Being alive appeals to me because it is what Jesus came to multiply: Life. He multiplies Himself into us so that we come alive in our spirit, soul and body. People can be very active, quite humorous and even heal people and still be crippled in soul and dead in their being. They lack spirit and life.
THE WELL-BEING OF TRUTH
Success in that part of us called the outer self can disguise a diseased inner self. Did you know that we can be a person who loves Jesus and yet remain dead in our being? Spiritual un-wellness comes from a vision of a distorted Jesus sourced in a distorted gospel. Truth is important because truth sets people free to know Christ’s gospel and the real Christ. Don’t settle for false christ who has been obscured by our personal fears and warped religion.
INTO THIS GLORIOUS LIGHT
Jeff Turner shares his journey from Christian veils and mythology to a life that is in God and truly alive.
“Over the course of a decade plus, I found all of my cherished, but lethal beliefs being burned up like chaff by the blazing heat of the Father’s love. Before there even was such a thing as a “Grace movement”, I began to encounter a God who was gracious, compassionate, kind and more loving than I’d ever dared to dream.
When the reality of His love met my angry God theology, something had to give, and it wasn’t going to be on His end. It was a season of great upheaval and uprooting in my life. The religious abuse and depression I’d become so accustomed to living with was slowly being chipped away at, and I simply could not exist that way any longer. I had to learn a new way of living, and it wasn’t easy. I cried many a tear and almost bled my soul dry. But it was worth it.” (1)
LIFE IS INTRINSICALLY WORTHY
It's worth being alive rather than fractionally dead for our own sake and for everyone else’s. To live to pump up your own denomination so that it finds its place in the world may not be to multiply life or loyalty to Christ. Any diminution of the truth binds people in some way and is a form of degradation.
To persist with ideas that diminish spirit and life is to promote a subtle and damaging form of abuse. Such abuse is pernicious because it cripples people at the source of their being: Their spirit and their soul.
WHENCE THE CURSE?
Paul warned that ‘other gospels’ attract a curse. This curse is not from God. It comes from ourselves and our attempt to define ‘godliness’ in terms. We are denuded of a real identity because we are not joined to the Real God.
Whether our community is a cult by definition or a sect is not the point. The point is that crooked spirituality is form of abuse that is so subtle that it can pass for a version of Christianity. It is a ‘version’ of course. It is a tare. Jesus does not expect you stay in it just as He insists that no one be imprisoned in an abusive marriage. The worst form of Christian abuse is found not in sexual abuse. It appears where people teach lies as though they are the truth of God.
BEGINNING OF REAL LIFE
“More often than not, leaving a cult environment requires an adjustment period, not only to reintegrate into “normal” society but also to put the pieces of yourself back together in a way that makes sense to you. When you first leave a cultic situation, you may not recognize yourself. You may not know how to identify the problems you are about to face. You may not have the slightest idea who you want to be. The question we often ask children, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” suddenly takes on a new meaning for adult ex-cult members.” (2)
When Jesus is your life – the Jesus who is I AM and the CHRIST OF GOD, you will grow into your real self – an uninhibited and un-retarded son/daughter of God.
