‘The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full’ John 10.10 NIV.
NO STOPPING AT A LESSER GOAL
‘Life to the full’ is sometimes visible – but not always. Life to the full inhabits the spirit, the soul and the body – when Christ is our life. Life personified is the trinity and you are alive because the trinity is in you.
God is in all through general grace. He is exquisitely and intensely in those who seek His Face in Jesus. In this mode we are alive with spirit and life because Christ is in us – not rattling around like a ping-pong ball but woven into our being so that Christ is us.
We can live a normal Christian life as an adherent of a belief system. Watchman Nee spoke of a normality in which we are each the expression of Jesus – Jesus come in our flesh. If Christianity is not a religion but a person then this is it – Christ manifesting in persons called Norm and Mavis.
Christ come in our flesh – is the opposite of a pedestrian life in which our spirit is half dead, our soul is sick and our mind is confused – because our gospel is not the actual gospel of Jesus, Paul and John, but a derivation produced by lethargy, lack of interest and sometimes false prophecy.
Increasingly there are Believers who are charged to the brim with spirit and life. I don’t mean the gifts or the anointing. Some with these can be quite ill. I mean people who know and live the incarnation; people in whom the trinity dwells by salutation and invitation in agreement with what already is – their inheritance.
It’s easy enough to be an evangelist of one’s ow denomination and labour in the illusion that this is synonymous with working for Jesus. It may be until you come to the border of this religion – until you come to the perimeter of your received beliefs and see that unless you cross this line you will not follow Christ – but have to settle for something watered down or just plain wrong.
You can pretend to ignore it, erect fictions to hide behind and make religion out of your rationalisations. But your ears and your eyes will dim progressively and you will not see God or His Gospel or yourself clearly. Due to a divided heart, you will not see God. You will just begin to die. You have entered the realm where the Christ you know is not the Christ of God and the gospel you follow is not the gospel of the Kingdom.
‘Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God’ Matt 5.8 NIV. Un-blessed are the those of divided heart – for they shall fade away in their delusion.
Religion makes no one alive – not one person. Christ in you makes a dead man alive. His life-giving Spirit in you ignites your spirit with eternal life. Your spirit becomes a flame, your soul is increasingly healed and even your body benefits from Christ in you.
There are no religious antics in this, no hype and manufactured awesomeness. It’s Christ come in our flesh – the trinity in you. A spiritually alive person wrote, “[We embraced] the adamant rejection of "last year's language" - any kind of comfortable habit, clinging, or stopping at a lesser goal.’ The reward of this is simple and palpable. ‘Whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them’ Matt 13.12 NIV.
