We live abundantly when we are living the life that is ours in Jesus Christ. Life comes from God and it comes from the nature of God – from who God is, in God’s being and from how God has related to us to draw us into His life by being Himself in action.

In Jesus the Enterprise of the trinity has drawn us into the fellowship and communion of God. In fellowship we are with God. In communion we are part of God’s being.


The real Gospel is not just about being right. It’s about being fully alive in spirit, truth and life. God spiritual discernment is evidenced in perceiving what theology is the gospel of the kingdom and what theology is ‘another gospel.’


Thomas Torrance put the importance of GENUINELY KNOWING the nature of God and our salvation this way,

Irenaeus writes that, unlimited though he is, God is finite in his Son (in filio esse finitum), for he has accommodated himself to our small measure lest our little minds should be overwhelmed by his immeasurable glory ... God is comprehended in Christ alone.’

This means that we may know God only through sharing in the knowledge of the Son by the Father and of the Father by the Son, and the testimony he gives us of himself through his Spirit.

As such we disavow any understanding of the Holy Trinity or any formulation of the doctrine of the Holy Trinity that has no intrinsic relation to the saving revelation of God in the life, work and Person of the Lord Jesus Christ

God is not defined by the law and neither are you. You are defined by your oneness in God.

It follows that we must disavow any gospel that would seek to source our salvation and spiritual well-being in the law, in abstractions, in religion, in moralism or a performance orientation.

Of course this is synonymous with Paul’s warning that any gospel that is not identical with His gospel, the Gospel of Jesus and the apostles is not only no gospel at all. It attracts a curse because it baptises us into the conceit of separation from God.


In Jesus we are judicially acquitted of our sins. But this is not all. In Jesus we receive His life as ours. His relationship with Father as our relationship. His life as our life – the incarnated life of the triune God in us. We enter a state of being called the sons of God in spirit and in truth.


There are
other gospels such as those espoused by N T Wright and denominations of the law in which we work to gain the union with God that we already possess. Paul rightly calls this a curse because it’s a re-run of the lie that brought on the fall. The lie that we are incomplete, should not trust God for our best interests and must take matters into our own hands and add something to the fullness that is our is God. This is the folly of evil and the mystery of iniquity. It’s the folly of adding the law to the incarnation and the futility of suffocating the Spirit for the sake of the law.


‘This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God’ 1 John 4.2 NIV.

‘Many deceivers have gone out into the world. They deny that Jesus Christ came in a real body. Such a person is a deceiver and an antichrist’ 2 John 1.7 NIV.
