LIFE IS A PERSON
A few years ago I perceived that Paul’s phrase, ‘Christ your life’ is the heart of the gospel of the Kingdom and the new covenant truth of Christ in us, Christ as us and Christ for us. Theologians call this the vicarious ministry of Christ. Jesus is both God to you and you for God.
VINE AND BRANCHES
There are many fruits of the incarnation. One I advance frequently is that Jesus’ life is expressed through us. His expression in us collectively is called the church and its effect on social life is the new creation in spirit and in reality.
PREPARE TO TAKE OFFENCE
The more accurate and fulsome our expression of the grace of God, the more it is opposed venomously by the religious and subtly by many of our friends. People cling to the illusion that there is something of us that earns our acceptance with God.
IT’S NONE OF YOU
Sure we must respond to Christ’s invitation to come to Him – but the second we add something of ourselves to His acceptance of us we have diluted the fullness that is ours or negated it entirely. This is why there are communities of faith that are dead trees.
Probably the best aspect of Christ our life is that Jesus’ life is fully our connection, relationship and at-one-ment with God. He is the Replacement for all our efforts to relate to God, be consistent with God and treat Him as God. No wonder He is our peace and our rest! No wonder the spirit of anti-christ attempts to diminish Him and what He does for us.
CARRIED IN CHRIST
This example given by J Baxter Kruger tells of a vision Jesus gave a young girl while he was teaching about the truth of the fact that Jesus is in all things the vicarious minister and go-between between ourselves and God; the truth that He has done this while becoming ‘us’ while remaining fully God. The girl said,
‘God gave me a vision. I saw God sitting on a throne. And there were
all of these steps leading up to his throne. And there were people.
hundreds and hundreds of people on the steps. We were all trying to
get to God. But none of us could make it. We kept falling. And we
could not get to God. And we were all sad. And then I saw Jesus. He
walked over and gathered us all up in his arms and he walked up the
steps and put us in the Father’s lap.’
IN CHRIST – IN GOD – IN LIFE WITHOUT LIMIT
That’s it. Despite our fitful attempts to please God or ‘keep close to Jesus’ He is with us and in us. Because of this we are in our Father. He has come in our flesh and lives in our being. But also, because He is a human being and the Son of God His relationship is our relationship. We have been placed in Father’s heart. This is our home. Because Jesus and Father are one, we and Father are one. This is the reality and the spirit of Sonship. This is the source of our peace and the fountain of life that flows from our being.
