LIFE TO THE FULL MAY NOT BE WHAT WE THINK OF AS CHRISTIANITY
The gifts of the Spirit are amazing. The main role of Holy Spirit is to testify of Christ, to reveal Christ as Christ is and to instil in our hearts the reality of that which Christ has accomplished for us by way of salvation – which is not just forgiveness but union with God.
The anointing and spiritual gifts are not synonymous with the atonement and the incarnation. Godly people did works of power before the cross but neither they or humanity were in that stage of history, where humanity was one with God.
TO MAGNIFY CHRIST
“St Paul tells us, it is only through the Holy Spirit that we may know and believe in Jesus Christ: ‘No one says Jesus is Lord (or Kyrios) but by the Holy Spirit,’ for it is only through the Spirit that we are made free to receive and apprehend God’s self-revelation and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ. It is only through God’s own Spirit that we can believe in the utterly astonishing truth announced to us, that in Jesus Christ God himself, the Creator of heaven and earth HAS BECOME ONE OF US AND ONE WITH US CREATURELY BEINGS in space and time.” (1)
THE GOD HEAD
Holy Spirit is fully God as Jesus is fully God and one with the Father. Yet it was not Holy Spirit who lived and taught the Kingdom among us then. It was not Holy Spirit who went to the cross, rose again and in so doing gave Himself fully into our life. So fully that we have been received into His Life. Holy Spirit is God but is not the Father or the Christ. This means that the gifts of the Spirit and the anointing are not the foundation of our salvation as faith building as they can be.
BELONGING IN CHRIST IS NOT WORDS
Jesus incarnated in you is the reality of your sonship and your union with God. It’s a state of being in which you now enjoy the oneness with the trinity that Jesus enjoys. “ That all of them may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I am in You. May they also be in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me”John 17.21 NIV. This comingling of our being with God is a reality in Christ and only a theory if we remain in the law.
The atonement, meaning at-one-ment is the undoing of our Adamic separation from God. Jesus’ reward is the achievement of our oneness with God – the incarnation is our life in the trinity; our life not as religion or Christianity but Christ as us by the Spirit. This is the foundation of our life in God and the reality that makes us sons of God.
THE FADED GLORY OF THE LAW-BOUND
Without this, the gifts fade, we fade and we are not people who are healed sons of God in spirit and in truth. Sonship is not a position or words that we say. The spirit of sonship is a state of being that is us in fellowship with the trinity. Sure we are not deity. But we are sons in spirit and in truth, which is much more than a notional assertion of words.
YOUR INHERITANCE IS AN UN-DEAD LIFE
‘The old way, with laws etched in stone, led to death, though it began with such glory that the people of Israel could not bear to look at Moses’ face. For his face shone with the glory of God, even though the brightness was already fading away’ 2 COR 3.7 NLT.
