‘But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you’ John 14.26 NIV.

Holy Spirit has been called the Executive Authority of Christ. Holy Spirit is entirely God as is Jesus. The Spirit is personal and lives to draw us into Jesus and to minister His Presence and assurance of being loved and included in the family of God. Holy Spirit lives to lead us into all of the truth about the fullness of our relationship with God in Jesus.

‘When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father--the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father--he will testify about me’ John 15.26 NIV.

Holy Spirit knows Jesus just as Jesus know the Father. Holy Spirit witnesses to Jesus, His mission, the resulting salvation that is ours as a result, who we are as persons of the Kingdom and the difference between false gospels and cunning deviations that pose as truth. Holy Spirit bears witness to Christ and the completeness of our union with God in Him.

A ministry of gifts and miracles is not the Gospel of the Kingdom, just as ministry without them is not the Kingdom. The Gospel of the Kingdom is the truth that in Christ we are one with God, Adamic separation is no more and we have the relationship with God that Jesus has with Father. This is the ground of our being, the soil of soul and the life of our spirit.

‘Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop--a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown’ Matt 13.8 NIV.

The ‘good soil’ is the ground from which the anointing and the gifts grow. Should we retain an old covenant mindset the gifts fade and the ‘words’ become polluted because they have no root. Heaven will never invade earth on the strength of healing gifts alone. Heaven arrives and stays when the fullness of God is embedded in our flesh. Heaven is here when we live in the foundational healing that is union with God.

Thomas Torrance observes, “We cannot forget that apart from the fulfilment of the atoning sacrifice of Christ on the Cross, the Holy Spirit, the immediate presence of God in unreserved self-giving to his people, would not have been poured out at Pentecost, and we sinful human beings would be unable to draw near to God and enter into personal communion with him, for without being reconciled to him we could not endure his transcendent purity and holiness.” (1)

The point here however is that the gifts and the Spirit as a thing in themselves are not the Gospel of the Kingdom or the Apostles Teaching. Old covenant communities that bolt Holy Spirit onto the law with its innate separation from God mindset cannot flourish. They are not joined to the spirit and life that is Christ come in the flesh. Why? Because the law has come in their flesh – a reversal of the prize of the cross and a suffocation of the incarnation.
