God is not different to His Son. Our Father is not different to Jesus. There is not an entity called ‘the law’ that is separate and different from God. There is nothing of God that is separate from Godself. There is no ‘god’ to which an abstraction called the law is attached. All of God is one and all of God is alive.


Jesus and Father are one because God is three in one. If we are to manifest Godliness in the world, in our marriages, families and churches and in our self we must know God as God is and live out His salvation as God has made it to be. To follow some other narrative is to extend the fall beyond its time and make a straight way crooked. In doing so we put the cross on its head and re-establish the era of the knowledge of good and evil.


Thomas Torrance observes that “If the economic or evangelical [the activity of God] Trinity and the [the nature of God] ontological or theological Trinity were disparate, this would bring into question whether God himself was the actual content of his revelation, and whether God himself was really in Jesus Christ reconciling the world to himself. That is the evangelical and epistemological significance of the homoousion (‘consubstantial’, of one substance, or of one and the same being with the Father) formulated by the Council of Nicaea in AD 325.” (1)


Apart from the fact that some revelations on which theologies are built did not come from God - God is not an abstraction such as the law and the law is not an adequate representation of God. Such a description is like saying a skeleton is a human being.


To say that Christ fulfils the law is not to say that He is a larger or more detailed version of the law. Jesus is not a Supervisor of new version of the knowledge of good and evil. He is the Expression of God and the expression of you.

God is not small and not an abstraction. God is ‘being’ itself and the Ground of our being as Paul asserts in Acts. We can know God in Jesus Christ but we cannot know God absolutely in the sense of defining Him in words. God reveals Himself and also remains hidden in mystery.


To say that Jesus Christ is The Word is to say that He is God and that He is the meaning and Fabric of the universe personified. ‘He is before all things, and in him all things hold together’ Col 1.17 NIV.

Paul means the same thing when he used the words, ‘The law of the Spirit of life.’ God is personal, is Relationship and this Relationship is known as THE TRINITY. The oneness of the trinity – union in diversity is the oneness of persons of society and the creation. It is through Jesus that this oneness and communion of life, love and purpose is restored.

‘And this is the plan: At the right time he will bring everything together under the authority of Christ—everything in heaven and on earth’ Eph 1.10 NLT. The beginning has begun. It appears as the new creation as we live in what we already have. The fullness of God incarnated in our persons.
