The truths of our inheritance in Christ are not found merely in the words of the Bible. These words are subject to The Word who is alive and has entered our reality by the incarnation and who in turn has entered us by the Spirit.
CHRIST IN YOU
The result is that the actuality of what Jesus did and what has been achieved by the enterprise of the trinity for us comes into our hearts and mind because Jesus, our Father and the Spirit bear witness in our hearts to the truth of themselves and of us.
Christ is in us literally and spiritually.
REAL PERSONS WHO DID REAL THINGS ARE IN US.
We are marinated in this presence and can read the word and know the truth of the gospel because we are in His Being and He is in us. It’s more than ticking boxes and citing proof texts because it has nothing to do with the law and everything to do with Christ our life.
THE MEANING OF MEANING
The meaning of the Gospel and the words of scripture must be interpreted by what actually happened, what God in Christ did and what that has meant for our lives in the moment and eternally.
The new covenant and is the template of accurate Biblical interpretation.
The meaning of the Bible and the meaning of your life in Christ must be separated from the twin heresies of separationism and legalism so that we flourish as sons of God rather than exist as disintegrating rib cages in a field of dead bones. Torrance astutely observes,
MORE THAN WORDS
“We are not to look for the biblical basis of the doctrine of the Holy Trinity in the New Testament simply in explicit statements such as the various triadic formulae found in it, significant as they are in themselves. Rather are we concerned, at least in the first place, with the apostolic witness to the series of mighty redemptive events in the advent of the Kingdom of God in Jesus Christ, and with the historical manifestation in them of God as Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
And so we are concerned with the whole movement of God’s personal self-revealing and self-giving to us in Christ and his Spirit, from the birth and baptism of Jesus throughout his life and ministry to his death and resurrection and to Pentecost.” (1)
The truth of Christ and the Gospel of the Kingdom will not be reversed by presumptuous prophetic utterances or aberrant, egotistical theologies.
Spurious legalisms must give way to what God in Christ actually did. The way in which Paul and John interpreted this is the template that gives real and exact meaning to the words of the Bible.
