His Kingdom in you and the world

The Gospel of the Kingdom is that God in Jesus Christ has undone the fall that meant the separation of Adam from the life of God.

Adam was never separated from God’s heart. More so Adam, meaning us were in our hearts because we had believed the lie that had become a jangle of lies; a culture in which we as humans took it into our own hands to be our ‘best self’; to be as gods constructing our own misshapen versions of good and evil.

Oneness with God is ours through relationship – not through systems of morality aka the law. ‘Realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you’ John 14.20.

It bears repeating that this separation has been undone in Jesus Christ. It means that when Jesus Christ called out ‘It is finished!’ the separation of the law of sin and death was finished. In Christ we had been brought back into the union with God that Christ enjoys in oneness with God.

‘Jesus said to them, "Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you’ John 6.53 NIV. How do we eat Him? By believing He is our life.

This is the meaning of the Lord’s Table, the mass and Holy Communion. It’s not about being lachrymose about the cross – as if this could prompt us to do better. It’s celebrating the fact that we are one substance with Christ. His life is our life.

‘Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me’ John 6.57 NIV.

You can release drops of life as a charity worker. You release rivers of spirit and life in your oneness with God.

Without this lived-in oneness becoming your own version of Mother Theresa will have some benefit – but none for the Kingdom of spirit and life, because unless we are living in our possession of union with God we are dead men walking devoid of spirit and life. How do we obtain Christ as our life. By agreeing with Jesus that He is our life.

We call this the new covenant and the incarnation in which we live in this oneness as the norm. To live in separation and make a virtue of oneness with the law is both poor religion and great obtuseness.

Holy Spirit anointing is never a substitute for your inheritance of union with God. It is a mistake to think that the possession of gifts of healing will fix the dysfunction of living from the old covenant. It has already been fixed and we have oneness with God as our prize and our inheritance in which to live now. Healings are signs of the reality of this healing but are not the reality itself.

Many are the communities that have started with the gifts but which have become dormant because they had no root in the oneness of God. No root because they insisted on living from the abstraction of the law.

In The Silver Chair, C. S. Lewis writes, “Long, long ago, at the very beginning, a White Witch came out of the North and bound our land in snow and ice for a hundred years. And we think this may be one of the same crew.” (1) Some individuals and some communities of faith still live in this winter of separation. Certainly ministry that teaches law and old covenant as truth ‘are the same crew’ albeit unwittingly even as they with great sincerity promote their winter (which is invisible to them) as the life that it is not.
