His Kingdom in you and the world

‘Reality is Christ’ said Paul.

The Christ is the ‘light and the light’ of human beings said John.

‘The law of the spirit of life’ that Paul speaks of is Jesus Christ. This is to say - that life is a Person.

Any teaching that makes the law and the abstractions of good and evil the foundation of the Kingdom did no come from God. The law, aka ‘the letter kills’ said Paul. So why involve yourself in a religion of the letter? By agreeing with Christ that He is your life, you become one with life and are alive in the only kind of real life that exists – spirit and life.

‘The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you--they are full of the Spirit and life’ John 6.63 NIV.

This spirit and life is you in your new covenant union with God. It is the quality of your life in the oneness that Jesus has drawn you into. In this oneness you are woven into the trinity and the trinity is woven into you. You are rooted in life personified. This is the source of the fruit of the Spirit in which you are the fruit. These fruits are not an abstraction. They are a description of who you are in your union with God: A son/daughter.

The nature of God is both personal and communal. The common fact is person. The personal is the essence of our salvation both in the forgiveness of sins and the multiplication of life from the trinity in us. Paul spoke of Christ in you and Christ our life because Paul had grasped the salvation of God as it was. This is the infusion of the fullness of God into our being courtesy of Jesus Christ. This infusion of fullness is not an abstraction. It is the Spirit of God. God does not give you religion. He gives you incarnation. Incarnation simply means Christ becomes you, become us, becomes the new creation.

Joe attempted Godliness all his life. He was neither pious or hypocrite. Just a solid searcher for more of God. Finally in desperation he shouted at Jesus, ‘I can’t do this stuff anymore!’ Greatly relieved Jesus replied ‘Good. Now I can do something with you!’

"Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again" John 3.3 NIV. We are born again from religion into oneness with God.

Those who refuse the incarnation in order to keep the law do not see what phantoms of godliness they have made themselves. In religion it is easy to be a dead man walking. When Christ is us it is impossible to be dead in spirit or crippled in soul.

As a law-keeper we are wooden at best and mean and ineffectual at worst. The end state of the persistent new covenant resistor is stagnation.

Any gospel that conceives Godliness as an abstraction has its origin in the knowledge of good and evil – a knowledge that is ‘the mode’ in separation from God. Legalism is the child of this mode and separation is its sister. Jesus Christ lives to bring all people and all things into oneness with Himself because oneness in diversity is the nature of the trinitarian nature of God.

‘And this is the plan: At the right time he will bring everything together under the authority of Christ—everything in heaven and on earth’ Eph 1.10 NLT.

This is the now and the not yet in Christ. In Him all that exists is one. In Jesus Christ all that is, is becoming one, and will do so at His Coming.

His ‘bringing together at this time’ is occurring through you and through us as God is incarnated in individuals and the church. The plan if for the incarnation to be seeded into social structure of the world. As genuine sons/daughters we will not be blasé about the kind of political economy that sucks life out of the earth. We will not restrict righteousness to sexuality and we will not draw arbitrary divisions between sacred and secular. Everything is sacred in the redeemed life that is ours in Christ.

“The Lord Jesus meets us.. as the Light and the Life of God, the Word and Truth of God, in the form of personal being, whom we may know only through personal faith and commitment as we indwell the whole presentation of him in the gospel story and in the preaching and teaching of the apostolic witnesses. When clothed with his revealing and saving acts he comes to dwell in us through the presence of his Spirit.” (1)

The meaning of the Bible is only partially know by enclosing what has happened for us in texts and phrases. Bible truth is known as the truth it is by including the books and accounts of the new testament in WHAT GOD ACTUALLY DID IN HISTORY AND IN CHRIST.

The framework and fundamental hermeneutic of the Bible is the new covenant. Similarly the spirit and life of God comes to you not because you can recite scripture or seclude yourself in supposedly Biblically based ‘positions’ but because the Christ who is real and the trinity of whom Jesus is a part is alive in you and part of you.
